Arkansas native Jenee Fleenor, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, performs songs she’s played on, been inspired by, or written during the Museum’s weekly Musician Spotlight series. This program was recorded on June 9, 2024, during CMA Fest. Barry Bales and Josh Martin, two of Fleenor’s bandmates in Wood Box Heroes, join her on bass and guitar.
During this program, Fleenor performs original songs such as “Squirrely Bird” and her 2019 single, “Fiddle & Steel,” as well as “Lay It on Me” and “This Train” from Wood Box Heroes’ debut album, 2024’s 444. She also answers audience questions and shares stories about her career as a session musician, band member, and songwriter.
Fleenor is the first woman to be nominated for both the Academy of Country Music’s Specialty Instrument Player of the Year award and the Country Music Association’s Musician of the Year award. She has won the CMA award for five consecutive years (2019–2023) and the ACM award twice. In recent years, Fleenor has been touring with Country Music Hall of Fame member George Strait.
