Sonny Curtis—award-winning songwriter, guitarist, recording artist, and member of the Crickets—performs live and shares stories during a special 2017 Songwriter Session in honor of the Museum’s fiftieth anniversary.
Accompanied with just his acoustic guitar, the Musicians Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member offers a musical journey through his life, stretching from his first time watching Elvis Presley perform in 1955 to playing with Buddy Holly and the Crickets, and later, writing the theme song for classic TV sitcom “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”
Among the songs Sonny Curtis performs and shares the stories behind: “Walk Right Back” (Everly Brothers), “He Was On to Something,” (Ricky Skaggs), “The Real Buddy Holly Story” (Waylon Jennings), “More Than I Can Say” (the Crickets, Leo Sayer), “Love Is All Around” (from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”), “I’m No Stranger to the Rain” (Keith Whitley), and “I Fought the Law” (Bobby Fuller Four, the Clash), and more.
This program also celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Museum’s series “Poets and Prophets: Salute to Legendary Songwriters,” which featured Curtis in 2012.
