David “Fergie” Ferguson joins the Museum’s Peter Cooper to discuss his career as recording engineer and producer. Accompanied by Mark Howard and Pat McLaughlin, Ferguson also performs “Chardonnay” and “Looking for Rainbows,” both tracks included on his 2021 album “Nashville No More.”
During the interview, Ferguson remembers his early years as a recording engineer for Country Music Hall of Fame member Cowboy Jack Clement at his Nashville studio, the Cowboy Arms Hotel and Recording Spa, and his experiences working with artists including Johnny Cash, John Prine and U2. Ferguson also talks about how “Nashville No More” came together during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ferguson served as sound engineer on Johnny Cash’s Grammy Award-winning “American Recordings” albums, produced by Rick Rubin, and has also engineered or produced recordings for a wide range of artists including Country Music Hall of Fame members Eddy Arnold, Charley Pride, and Mac Wiseman, the Del McCoury Band, John Prine, Sturgill Simpson, and U2.
Part of the Museum’s “Live at the Hall” series, this program was recorded on October 21, 2021.
