Grammy-winning musicians Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal share stories of their creative collaborations throughout their thirty years together and discuss their record label, RumbleStrip Records. This live interview and performance was presented in partnership with the Americana Music Association during AmericanaFest 2023 and was recorded on September 19, 2023.
During this program, Grammy-winning musician, producer, and recording engineer Leventhal interviews Cash, his wife. They discuss how they met, working together, and the inspiration behind Cash’s “The Wheel” album, produced by Leventhal and later remastered in 2023. Cash also shares what made her decide to leave Nashville and move to New York City. Both Leventhal and Cash answer audience questions and perform songs they’ve written: “Tears Falling Down,” “The Wheel,” and “Seven Year Ache.”
Also during the program, Cash donates to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum a collection of jackets from her “Seven Year Ache” tour in 1980 and a Ferrington guitar, originally commissioned by her father, Johnny Cash, in 1979 as a gift to Rosanne.
Rosanne Cash has recorded sixteen Top Ten hits, is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and is the author of a “New York Times” bestselling memoir, “Composed.” She is a recipient of the Americana Music Association’s Spirit of Americana Free Speech Award and has won Song of the Year and Album of the Year honors from the organization. Leventhal was named the Americana Music Association’s Instrumentalist of the Year in 2015. His debut solo album, “Rumble Strip,” was released in January 2024.
